Eco-tourism is defined by The International Ecotourism Society (TIES 1990) as “responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of the local people.” Eco-tourism is about uniting conservation, communities, and sustainable travel. This means that those who implement and participate in ecotourism activities should follow the following ecotourism principles:

• Minimize impact.
• Build environmental and cultural awareness and respect.
• Provide positive experiences for both visitors and hosts.
• Provide direct financial benefits for conservation.
• Provide financial benefits and empowerment for local people.
• Raise sensitivity to host countries’ political, environmental, and social climate.

Live Eco Style’s ECO Certification criteria incorporates and embraces these concepts as best business practices to meet the overall requirements of the “eco-conscientious traveler” and general benefits of conservation, community, and economy.

Driving Demand for Responsible Tourism
  • At 80 million people strong, Baby Boomers control 70% to 80% of the wealth, live longer, value more active lifestyles, and are increasingly aware of environmental issues.
  • The environmentally conscious ‘Gen-Xers’ have embraced conscientious consumerism or “spending your way to a greener planet”
  • Millennials are generally well-informed, electronically savvy, like personal attention, and are passionate about environmental and social justice issues.
Internal Benefits
  • The Eco Certification Assessment provides a framework for measuring overall Eco-Mindedness, Training Staff, and targeting future areas of Development.
  • The assessment provides a birds-eye view of the organization that allows each department to see beyond their ‘silo’ and celebrate each other’s accomplishments.
  • As your staff has a better understanding of the whole, they can tell the organization’s story of eco-mindedness more clearly to guests and clients.
Direct Marketing Benefits
  • Framed Certificate for display at each of the named entities, such as; Hotel, Spa, Golf Course, or Restaurant.
  • Business Listing on, Featured write-up on Live Eco Style’s social networks, and we provide a Press Release for your use.
  • Use of the Live Eco Style Eco Certification logo on all your marketing materials

Live Eco Style’s proprietary assessment provides four levels of certification to recognize organizations that are at different benchmarks in their efforts. The  assessment is weighted on eco-impact, so it’s not just about how much your company does to be eco-minded, as much as it is about ‘what’ your company does to be eco-minded.
